Scottsdale mommy makeovers restore your figure.
A mommy makeover is a comprehensive set of procedures used to treat all the areas which change during pregnancy. There are 4 major variations of the mommy makeover we offer to our patients at the AB Guerra Plastic Surgery Center. We recommend that patients prioritize the areas important to them, so we can appropriately discuss your interests and create a reasonable treatment plan that addresses your needs. The goal of Scottsdale mommy makeovers is to use combinations of body contouring techniques to help mothers return, as best as possible, to their pre-pregnancy body.
Your tummy changes with pregnancy.
Your tummy changes the most with pregnancy. The combination of growing uterus and pregnancy-related hormones culminates to stretch and increase the abdominal girth. These changes are normal and serve to allow the abdominal wall muscles to stretch allowing your baby to grow comfortably. This phenomenon typically creates a separation of the tummy muscles, called rectus diastasis, in order to accommodate your baby. The skin of the tummy also stretches under the same influences, and may develop stretchmarks. In some women, the abdominal tissues return to their pre-pregnancy state, but most do not. Many women have loose, sagging skin, and disfiguring stretch marks, with a bulging abdominal wall to varying degrees after pregnancy. If a C-section was performed, the hanging may be quite pronounced. Diet and exercise typically do not help with these changes, which are often permanent, and cannot be reversed without plastic surgery.
There is going to be three basic tummy tuck options after pregnancy. If your tummy only developed minimally saggy skin, we will likely recommend a mini tummy tuck with or without liposuction. If the normal amount of tissue excess developed, then a standard tummy tuck is recommended with or with out liposuction. For those patients who developed very excessive amounts of hanging skin after pregnancy, an extended tummy tuck with or without liposuction is recommended. Our ultimate recommendation can only be made after a full cosmetic surgery consultation and physical examination of the abdominal area and fat pads by Dr. Guerra. More information on Scottsdale mommy makeover and Scottsdale tummy tuck is available at the AB Guerra Plastic Surgery Center.

When is a breast reduction needed?
Large breasts can cause multiple problems, including neck, back, shoulder pain, headaches, shoulder-grooving (bra-straps digging in), interference with activities and exercise, rashes under the breasts, inability to find clothing that fits properly and psychological problems with self-image. As a result, women with large breasts are often in chronic pain, have little energy and may be overweight because they are unable to exercise, which prevents them from enjoying a higher quality of life.
Breast reduction surgery as an option.
While weight loss and exercise are often suggested by most physicians prior to surgery, these efforts are often futile. Weight loss usually does not alleviate the symptoms of large breasts. Medications may be of some benefit, but usually the effect is limited. Invariably, breast reduction surgery is the most effective, efficient and most successful way to treat problematic large breasts.
During the breast reduction operation, the nipples-areola complex is moved to a higher position on your breasts. This is usually accomplished without removing your nipples. The technique used to do this is called breast transposition, in which the nipple stays fully attached to the breast and only the surrounding skin is moved. As the nipple preserves its attachment, most women retain nipple sensation and the ability to breast feed. Only in cases where the breasts are severely enlarged do the nipples require free grafting (completely detached from the body). Childbirth and breast-feeding may have significant and unpredictable effects on the size and shape of your breasts. Nevertheless, many women decide to undergo breast reduction before having children and feel that they can address any subsequent changes later. If you plan to breast-feed in the future, you should discuss this with your plastic surgeon.
For the Scottsdale mommy makeover at the AB Guerra Plastic Surgery Center, there is going to be three basic breast options for patients after pregnancy. If your breast did not sag or are minimally saggy we will likely recommend a breast augmentation with silicone breast implants or saline breast implants. If the breasts have sagged enough to require a lift then we will likely offer the option of breast lift with silicone or saline implants or breast lift without implants. Those with larger breasts after pregnancy will likely be offered a breast reduction. Our ultimate recommendation can only be made after a full consultation and physical examination of the areas of interest.
